JOB SUMMARY of Physical Therapist:
Under the general direction of the Physical Medicine Director organizes and administers prescribed physical therapy programs in an effort to reduce and/or prevent disability to help patients achieve their maximum functional potential.
PHYSICAL THERAPIST ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluates and treats patients as prescribed by referring physician.
Records treatment, response, progress and discharge information in patient's chart or enters information into computer.
Educates patient, family and significant others regarding condition, treatment and home program.
Routinely confers with physician and other practitioners in person, by phone, or in writing, regarding progress, regression or change of plan.
Orients, instructs, and directs assistants, aides and students.
Maintains professional growth by attendance of department meetings, inservice and educational conferences. Includes participation in hospital orientation and departmental and community inservice education and programs as directed.
Assists with the planning and implementation of new programs.
QUALIFICATIONS of Physical Therapist:
Education:
1. BS, MS or DPT degree from an accredited program in Physical Therapy required.
2. Licensure by the state of Connecticut required.
3. Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required.
Experience:
1. Minimum of one-year clinical experience preferred.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES of Physical Therapist:
Reviews physicians' referral and patients' condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.
Tests and measures patients' strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment program.
Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data with realistic, objective, long and short-term goals and time frames.
Records treatment, response, progress and discharge information in patients' chart or enters information into computer, in measurable and objective terms as dictated by department policy.
Administers individualized programs of physical therapy as determined by the physicians' order and the initial evaluation. This will include, but not be limited to, therapeutic exercise, moist heat, traction, manual therapy, cold, gait training, hydrotherapy, ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
